Story
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting our physical health, mental wellbeing and how we choose to live our lives. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all.
As most of you know I have Cystic Fibrosis. I was diagnosed at 6 months old, and was told I would not live past aged 15. Unfortunately CF is an 'invisible' illness, and CF likes to remind you it can set you back big time, some get stomach blockages, regular hospital admissions for IV antibiotics and as you get older, more CF complications arise, osteoarthritis & CF Related Diabetes and liver disease. Over recent years new medicines have helped ease CF symptoms, however more is needed so that all people with different CF mutations can remain well.
I am determined to reach the summit of Snowdon every month for the next 12 months to raise money. It will keep me fit and well and push me to my limit 😁👊 I am also walking in memory of Sally Watkins and Karen Duckers, both friends of mine, who both lost their lives way to early from CF.
