Story

We are three best mates from school….Chris, Alex and Sam, whose families have been repeatedly devastated by cancer over the years. We have decided enough is enough!!

Sadly this horrible disease after years of battling took our Mum Sally a few years ago and most recently Sam’s Aunty Sarah last month. Unfortunately it has also affected many other family and friends over the years.

After hearing about Sarah and another friends young wife who also died of cancer we decided that we simply had to do something. We wanted to try and help in any small way possible.

Sally had sadly suffered from cancer on and off for 15 years. Unfortunately it returned again and although she fought bravely for many months she eventually lost her battle with cancer in September 2022.

Sarah first found out she had cancer around 6 years ago, but sadly it came back with a vengeance as secondary cancer, spreading to her liver and spine. She lost her battle with cancer end of August 2024.

With an estimated 61,000 people in the UK currently living with secondary breast cancer, also known as stage IV or advanced breast cancer. This little-known form of the disease – a cancer that has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body – claims 1000 lives each month in the UK, an average of 31 deaths daily.

ARE YOU FED UP WITH CANCER??

Well we are too! I’m sure like virtually everyone out there we all know people who have suffered from it or died from it.

I’m sure I can speak for everyone in saying that we are all thoroughly fed up of it and it is a daily worry for many of us.

Cancer doesn’t care who you are or how old you are. It is hitting more and more people every day and they are being taken away from us far too early in life.

We have therefore decided to do the following challenge!

The Challenge: Run the Anglesey Coastal Path

Distance: 130 miles (equivalent of 5 Marathons)!!

Date: 11th October 2024

Duration: We are aiming to do this in 3-4 days!

Anglesey was a very special place to both Sally and Sarah, having spent many happy days with family and friends in Rhoscolyn and Red Wharf Bay respectively.

So the journey will start In Rhoscolyn, Anglesey and take us along the coastal path to the Menai Straits and up round past Red Wharf Bay, Benllech, to Holyhead and finish back in Rhoscolyn!

We wanted to support two charities. Firstly Wirral Hospice St John’s who did an amazing job caring for Sarah at home through her final days. They deliver compassionate care and support for people to live out their final days as comfortably and pain free as possible.

There are over 100,000 people living with cancer in Merseyside & Cheshire. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, provides specialist cancer treatment for many of these people, through its unique network of care across the region, caring for a population of 2.4 million people. It is a charity that also did a wonderful job looking after Sally whilst she was ill and has also given lots of support to many other people we know.

We are extremely proud to be supporting such brilliant charities, who have supported so many friends and family over the years.

We are very grateful to everyone who can donate, from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you so much and we will keep you posted on how we get on during the challenge.

Lots of love

Chris, Alex & Sam x
