Headlight Hike into the Light 2024

Hike Into The Light · 5 July 2024
We will be taking part in this years Headlight Hike into the Light.
The 12 mile hike takes place at night (11pm – 5am) the route starts at Cod Beck reservoir (Sheep Wash to our family, which was one of Alistair’s favourite places to go when visiting his Grandma and Grandad). It will take us through pine forests, along ancient trails and on to the historic Cleveland Way. It will be both physically, mentally and emotionally challenging but we hope to reinforce the message that nothing is permanent as we move from the darkness into the light …..
Angela’s story:
I am doing this hike to honour my son Alistair who took his own life in May 2023 aged 38.
From that time with the support of family, friends and the Headlight counselling services I have found a way to function. The counselling provided has been unparalleled in the way that it has been there for me when I needed it. Doing this hike enables me to thank them, show my appreciation and help provide further funding to help them support other suicide bereaved families.
Most importantly it is for Alistair who in the end could not see the light.
Kate’s story:
I am taking part in the Headlight Hike Into the Light to support my lovely, caring, long standing friend Angela, who sadly lost her son Alistair last year. Headlight have really helped and supported her through this time.
Alistair was my only Godson, watching him grow from blond haired, blue eyed, sun kissed baby to a wonderful man. This hike is for him, who didn’t see the sunshine he had around him and gave to others.
The Headlight Project aims to reduce the number of deaths by suicide in the Tees Valley, which has one of the highest regional rates in the country. They aim to achieve this by providing therapy to those bereaved by suicide, and delivering preventative education and training to schools, local businesses and the community.
Any support would be greatly appreciated.
