Story

I'm joining in raising £30,000 in Action Village India's Summer of Solidarity to celebrate 30 years of Madras Café supporting Action Village India and development projects in rural India.

Take Whilst You Give

Who doesn’t love a cheeky takeaway? Whether it’s a weekly treat for your family after a hard week or an occasional night off when you just can’t face the kitchen, takeaways are something we all enjoy. The average person in the UK spends £12 per person per week on a takeaway…what do you think about getting a night off from cooking but that money goes to charity?

In a similar style to bake sales and coffee mornings I’m holding a ‘take whilst you give’ fundraiser for Action Village India.

Info!

100% profits from this fundraiser go to Action Village India. Simply Fresh (a local grocery store, 201-203 Roman Rd, Globe Town, London E2 0QY) has very generously agreed to support me for the ingredients. I thank them for their help.

Containers: I will be using foil containers with cardboard lids (to try to be as plastic-free as possible). I'll buy these myself as part of my fundraising so all profits can go to the Action Village India Summer Appeal.

How it works:

• Put in a request for a takeaway by messaging Aneeta on 07940850458. Let me know how many people you’d like to feed. The deadline for orders is Monday 10th July.

• The requested donation is (miniumum) £10 per person (or you can generously donate more if you wish!) Donate easily through my Just Giving link.

• Collect your dinner and donate!

Date for your Takeaway:

Monday 17th July 2023

Menu: The menu is vegetarian (vegan if you don't have the yogurt):

• Rice

• Chick pea, coconut milk and mixed veg curry (my boys have labelled this the Family Curry and it’s a firm favourite - yes even Rishi eats it).

• Raita (yogurt with cucumber and spices)

Please note that whilst this is a gluten and nut* free recipe, there is *coconut milk in it and my kitchen isn't gluten and nut free so please take care if you have severe allergies. If you'd like a full list of ingredients please let me know by text message on 07940850458. Thank you :)

*As far as I understand, coconut milk is ok for people with a nut allergy as a coconut is officially a fruit; but please contact me if you are worried.

Collection time: Any time from 2-8pm on Friday 14th July. The curry can be warmed up in the oven or microwave so you can collect it when suits you. It will be freshly made that day so you can keep it in the fridge for a couple of days if you wish (or even be put in the freezer for another time).

Collection address: Rosebank Gardens, E3 5EF. Full info on booking.

Action Village India is a small UK based charity that supports and fundraises for several NGOs working on the ground in rural India. The projects they fund include girls’ education, women’s governance, land rights and disability rights and much more to support women, children and men in rural India. I've worked for Action Village India as Fundraising, Communications and Operations Manager since 2018. This fundraiser is done in my own time as an independant event linked to the AVI Summer Appeal.
