Story
I am very lucky to be running the London Marathon 2024, in aid of the MS Society and in memory of my dear Mum.
Multiple sclerosis is a condition which causes damage to the nerves in your brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system). It’s estimated that 130,000 people in the UK have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and every week around 100 more people are diagnosed. MS is incurable. It is largely untreatable and relentless in it’s impact.
Family and close friends will be aware that I lost my mother over 7 years ago, after a 15 year battle with secondary progressive MS. During that time, I have completed multiple events to fundraise for the MS Society, which is naturally very close to my heart.
In addition, I have been fortunate enough to meet people who are suffering, or know others who have suffered with the disease. The similarity between us all is that there is still no cure, and very little hope.
Seeing my mothers health and well-being deteriorate for such a long time, as a child, was really heartbreaking. The disease had a significant impact on mums: vision, motor-system, cognitive function, mobility as well as spasms.
I never really understood the challenges my mother faced and the complexities of the disease until her passing. These learnings have certainly been a motivator in continuing to support the MS society.
I’d be so grateful for your donations, however big or small, to support the MS Society to continue research into a cure, or more developed medicine to support sufferers with managing their condition.
Thank you,
Andy
