We fundraise for local school age children to improve their mental wellbeing

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Everyone is talking about the mental health crisis our children are facing, it’s backed up by data showing that Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) referrals in our local area have doubled* since Covid and youth anxiety and depression are at record levels. At the same time, the funding and capacity of our child mental health support services have not kept pace with the scale of the challenge.

We are seven passionate parent volunteer Trustees of Well Windsor www.wellwindsor.org.uk, a brand new, local charity launching this month raising funds to increase the mental health and wellbeing provision for children and young adults. We believe communities must get off the sidelines now to better support our children at this vital time.

Well Windsor has raised initial funds to support eight schools in our town with a pilot programme focused on a proactive resilience-building curriculum as well as extra staff training and student counselling provision. This pilot is now up and running and we are desperately seeking more funds to reach all twenty-one schools in the area.

To draw attention to the launch of our new charity, our Chair of Trustees has decided to ditch the ‘never again’ promise he made in 2018 after his first Ironman triathlon and dust off the wetsuit, lycra and trainers for his second one on October 6th. A 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike followed by a marathon (26.2 mile) run. It falls just before our Charity launch on World Mental Health Day, October 10th.

In Andy's own words "I personally have found a strong link between re-building my physical health and good mental health and the training has been welcome during what have been a couple of challenging years both on the professional and personal front. Some of you may know that my dear Mum, Antonia (Toni) Nuttall passed away in March this year after a sudden and out-of-the-blue cancer diagnosis. She was a primary school teacher by profession and passionate advocate of youth mental health. She is the founder donor of Well Windsor and will certainly be on my mind as I face the Ironman challenge on October 6th. Love you Mum. xx"
