Andy's London Marathon fundraiser for Cure EB

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
I’m running on behalf of CureEB in honour of my wonderful niece Poppy, and others who suffer from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). EB is an incurable and very painful genetic skin condition which causes internal and external blisters at the slightest friction. Poppy and many other EB sufferer’s wounds constantly itch and if they succumb to scratching, they open old wounds or blister again. It leads to a life of constant pain and in its most serious form (which Poppy has), it causes wounds that are like having very severe burns, that don’t heal and can eventually lead to skin cancer.
Without meaning to start with excuses, I’ve got 4 kids under 6 and get injured at the slightest change in wind (the most recent example being tearing my cartilage kicking a ball past my 3-year-old in the local soft play) so this is undoubtedly going to be the biggest physiological challenge I’ve undertaken. My determination to achieve this goal though, comes from that fact that any pain I suffer in this process will be a fraction of what EB sufferers face all day, every day.
I’ve set myself a couple of ambitious goals, namely raising £5000 for CureEB and completing the 26 miles in around 4 hours (prior to this training, I have completed zero aerobic exercise).
CureEB exists to find and fund research and fundamentally works to find a cure for this devastating disease (which is not a cheap undertaking)! If anyone can find some spare cash to send to the charity, it will be well used on said research! My just giving page is here: Andy Gee is fundraising for Cure EB. Any donations would be incredibly gratefully appreciated!
I’ll be updating Strava with progress, if anyone would like to follow me, my link is here: https://strava.app.link/7ISuVCcJyPb
