Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have chosen the charity SOFEA as the beneficiary for my +1,000km walk to the Altar of the Sun (in Finisterre, Galicia), via Santiago di Compostela. Because of fracturing 2 ribs when only 250kms into my journey in Sept'24, I am obliged to complete the remainder of the walk in Spring'25.
In 2013, SOFEA was founded to support vulnerable young people, many of whom face daunting emotional & behavioural challenges in the formative years of their lives. In 2023, & in recognition of its contribution to 10 years of valued service to the community, SOFEA was honoured to receive a visit from His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen.
I am hoping that this sponsorship initiative will raise £5,000 for SOFEA. This sum would fund a year of guidance & learning on the SOFEA ‘programme’ for one extra vulnerable young person. This would incorporate counselling & mental well-being support, the teaching of core academic subjects, & preparation for their eventual entry into the world of employment - all essential tools for enabling a 'Young Learner' to shape a positive & inclusive future for him/herself.
SOFEA is also a regional arm of the national charity FareShare, re-distributing surplus food to those in food poverty across the Thames Valley and South Midlands. The food warehouse operation offers ‘Young Learners’ on the 'SOFEA programme' a safe, first step on to the employment ladder.

My journey started in St.Jean-Pied-du-Port (in the south-west corner of France), and end in Finisterre (literally meaning 'Edge of the World') on the Atlantic coast in the north-west corner of Spain. The journey follows 4 separate Camino trails (the French Way, Salvador, Primativo & Finisterre) - a distance of more than 1,000 kilometres; and a climb of 18 vertical kilometres (equivalent to scaling Everest twice).
Feel free to follow my progress on Instagram ID: andyevans_horspath. I will post 'highlights' at the end of each day. I’ll be resuming my journey again in Spring'25.
Many thanks for your interest & support.
