Story

English Three Peaks Challenge For Myla!!

September the 21st and 22nd we are attempting to climb the only 3000 ft peaks in England . Scafell Pike,,Helvellyn and Skiddaw equating to 9,325 ft combined and roughly 26 miles in hiking ( marathon of hiking ) .

Four family members including myself are trying to raise money for My Niece Myla!!

Myla is aged 2 in October from Uttoxeter in Staffs. She was born at 25 Weeks + 2 Days at 780g (1 lbs 11 oz). Myla had a 14 week stay in Neonatal Care including an 8 week stay in Leicester, 4 weeks in Derby and a further 2 weeks in Burtonpeph. During Myla's Neonatal journey she had many hurdles to overcome including Sepsis, a bleed on the brain, multiple failed extubations, 5 Blood Transfusions, suspected Meningitis, as well as the constant battle of trying to lower her oxygen requirement and breathe independently.

Myla left Neonatal care on the 5th January 2023. She was re-hospitalized on the 15th of January for 6 days, unfortunately requiring intubation which we later found out was due to contracting the human coronavirus. Myla was also re-hospitalized in February of 2023 for 5 days again due to a virus. Thankfully on this occasion she required CPAP only and not intubation.

For the next 4 or 5 months Myla was a happy baby developing at an acceptable pace albeit here weight stagnated and was not moving in an upwards trend. In July 2023 we noticed Myla was becoming less active and started to seemingly move backwards in her development. This was put down to viruses going around at the time. However, sickness started occurring after feeds gradually building to unmanageable levels. Myla was then re-hospitalized in August/September 2023 with Hypercalcemia. Hypercalcemia in babies has strong links with a failure to thrive. We spent 3 weeks getting Myla back on track and growing again.

Unfortunately with hypercalcemia you lose muscle tone, this happened to Myla on severe levels, where Myla had to start again with her Motor skills and learn how to roll, sit, crawl, walk and talk.

We raised this as a major concern to our consultant. Following an MRI we now know Myla has a short corpus collosum and the folds of her brain would not be deemed "normal".

Present day, Myla is the happiest little girlie. Myla is now able to roll and sit unaided with the help from an amazing therapy business called Blue Skies Ahead in Birkenhead. We travel a 120 mile round trip twice a week to Blue Skies ahead to try and help Myla's Brain develop and grow so she can keep moving forward and turn sitting to crawling and crawling to walking.

Thank you for your support.
