Story
We are thrilled to announce our participation in the Võhandu Marathon, the renowned 100km canoe marathon in Estonia, all in support of Dove House Hospice. We are Dave Rawding and Andy Davies from the Kingston Kayak Club, and we are determined to take on this incredible challenge to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
The Võhandu Marathon has a rich history, and this year marks the 19th edition of this epic race. The route takes us on a captivating journey, beginning with a lap of the Tamula Jarv Hoiuala Lake and then navigating the Võhandu River towards Lake Pihkva. Along the way, we'll face four portages and six thrilling white water sections, testing our skills and endurance.
This prestigious event attracts 1,500 competitors each year, and we're excited to be the first all-British crew representing our club in this international race. The challenge allows participants to compete in any man-powered craft, making it an exhilarating test of skill, strategy, and determination.
Our goal is not only to complete the 100km within the 24-hour time limit but also to raise vital funds for Dove House Hospice. As a local charity that has touched the lives of our own family and friends, supporting Dove House Hospice is deeply personal to us. They provide exceptional end-of-life care, therapies for life-limiting illnesses, and invaluable bereavement support. They’ve recently begun supporting children of those they’re caring for, to help them through hugely challenging times.
By supporting our Võhandu Marathon endeavor, you will directly contribute to the compassionate care and services provided by Dove House Hospice. Our initial fundraising target is £2500, but with your generosity, we hope to surpass this goal and make an even greater impact.
During our training, preparation, and the thrilling race itself, we'll be documenting our journey on Kingston Kayak Club's YouTube channel. You can follow our progress, get an inside look at the challenges we'll face, and witness the breathtaking beauty of this unexplored part of the world. We'll also share regular updates on our social media platforms, so be sure to connect with us there.
On the race day, you'll have the opportunity to track our progress through GPS updates, which we'll share via our social media channels. Together, let's cheer us on as we paddle our way through the 4 portages and 6 white water sections, all for the benefit of Dove House Hospice.
Join us on this incredible journey of determination, resilience, and compassion. Your support and donations will make a significant difference in the lives of those facing difficult times. Please contribute through our JustGiving page, and together, let's help Dove House Hospice continue their invaluable work.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and encouragement.
With gratitude,
Dave and Andy
