Story
Strength for Stanley supports Duchenne UK a charity that has one clear aim to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
DMD is a devastating muscle-wasting disease. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys. Started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development. All money raised by Strength for Stanley goes to help fund this essential work.
I've been friends with Bobby and Kirstie for over 20 years and was devastated when I heard their son Stanley was diagnosed with DMD. Stanley was 6 at the time and it changed everything for the family. They left the life they had built in Australia to move home to be closer to family and friends and have had to adapt their home and lifestyle to give Stanley the best life he can have, and they are doing an amazing job! Stanley lives the most normal life he can, going to school with friends, playing games at home and he plays wheelchair football and has realistic ambitions of playing for England, he's that good!
To help raise some money I am doing 2 events over the coming months, both of which are out of my comfort zone (quite literally!) as I will be in the saddle for between 12-14hrs for each. The first is the mighty Mallorca 312(km), over the mountains of the Serra Tramuntana. If that isn't enough, I have also signed up to ride from Glasgow to Manchester in a day (probably into a head wind!) and covering nearly 380km!
I hope you can sponsor me and I really appreciate anything you give to this amazing charity and wonderful cause.
Together, we will end Duchenne.
