As a Junior Football Coach coaching the same group of players for almost 10 years, the inevitable happens whereby they become a huge part of your life as much as you do theirs. Having an inspirational role in their development is not only an honour but incredibly rewarding. From young children to now young adults, the journey has been amazing watching there characteristics evolve.

None more so than Callum Felton.. a once very shy young lad who quite often wouldn’t leave his parents car to join the football group, because in his mind He didn’t think his peers would accept him as He felt he wasn’t good enough.. this was far from the case and Callum developed into a pivotal and key member of the team, proving an inspiration to all.

Unfortunately 14 weeks ago Callum’s World for himself and his family was torn apart when he was involved in a tragic car accident.. quite simply an horrendous situation for any family to encounter and experience. The first 48 hours after the accident was thwart with uncertainty.. the next 6 weeks offered small glimmers of hope.. the last 3 weeks offering some form of comfort to his family.

14 weeks practically bed bound on the Neurological HDU ward at James Cook Hospital, with round the clock treatment and care from quite simply amazing Consultants, Doctors, Nurses and Physiotherapists to name but a few. Callum must once again show amazing character and fighting spirit.. but this can only be aided by the wonderful research and development by organisations such as Brain Research UK.

On Sunday May 21st, Felts AFC ( formerly known as Bedale Juniors but I’m sure you can understand the team name change) will host a Charity Match against Catterick Rovers (Managed by Tom King) Kick Off 12:00 noon, Referee Peter Hazelton, Venue: BJFC Football Club, Dobsons Playing Fields, Firby Road, Bedale DL8 2PN.

Please please come along and offer your support and help us raise funds and awareness for Brain Research UK. Donations on the door will be gratefully appreciated or alternatively direct on the justgiving link provided. Cafe facilities for hot/cold food and drinks will be on offer so please feel free to sample a marvellous butty and brew.
