Story
On 31st May I'll be cycling 225 miles, from Dumfries to Aberdeen, to raise money for River Garden (Independence from drugs and alcohol Scotland).
In Scotland it's estimated 57,000 people suffer from addiction, causing 2,500 deaths due to addiction each year.
Traditional rehabilitation is expensive, costing ~£1,000 per week and has a success rate of around 30%.
River garden follows a rehabilitation model that is free at the point of service with a success rate of 73%, achieved through multiple years living and working as part of a community.
River Garden Wood is a place where residents of the community will be introduced to woodworking and will be able to produce goods. Where residents show aptitude and interest they will be supported to study for a SVQ in joinery, to prepare them with skills once they leave River Garden.
The money raised will provide two shipping containers fitted with kilns and controls to support the start up of river garden wood.
