Story
Social mobility is something I have always cared about having been fortunate enough to attend university and attain a good graduate job. I quickly realised though that inequalities start from the very beginning of our lives (early years and education) which thus makes it extremely difficult to have a society that is as socially mobile as it could be.
Education in this country isn't fair. Pupils from low-income backgrounds are not less able than their more affluent peers, however they often lack the resources and tools that help them to achieve. With proven impact, Action Tutoring has been supporting disadvantaged school pupils for over a decade, providing them with high-quality Maths and English tuition by harnessing the power of brilliant volunteer tutors to help them succeed. Their vision is a world in which no child's life chances are limited by their socio-economic background - and one in which we can all agree with!
Having been volunteering with AT since the start of the year (yes I tutor Maths to both Primary and Secondary kids) I have seen first-hand the impact that you can have - so if you are not in a position to donate I would strongly recommend looking into tutoring (as little as 1hr per week). The charity has also impressed me with their advocacy work and how they are determined to make changes at the policy level which is where they can really make a difference. A quote from their recent newsletter:
"Advocacy will continue to be one of our priorities as a charity. In addition to our frontline work, campaigning for disadvantaged pupils in Parliament will go a long way in reducing education inequalities."

So if you think I am crazy for attempting to run for 24hrs then I would love for you to help out this charity in trying to level the playing field in education!
As you may be aware I am also raising money for a very different charity who is doing amazing work for a community in Uganda and helping to alleviate poverty. Please see their website and help out in any way you can:

Finally, I know everyone has charities close to their heart so if you want to donate to those (I know lots of fundraising for London Marathon) then please do! Any money going to worthy causes in the spirit of my run will make me happy!
As ever, peace and love,
