THE DOUBLE BRUTAL TRIATHLON - RAISING MONEY FOR THE CHUBBS CRUSADE AND MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
My good friend and colleague James Chubb has a wonderful daughter Josie (7) who was formally diagnoses with Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy in July 2021.
The condition is very rare and progressive with no treatment or cure and limits everything Josie can do physically from running, jumping, climb stairs or transition from seated to standing. Josie fatigues very quickly therefore even standing for any period is difficult therefore the use of a wheelchair is vital. The condition reaches further than just the legs, it also means Josie has weak upper body strength affecting her arms, torso and neck. Everyday tasks are significantly more difficult if not impossible for Josie without adult support. As the condition progresses, significant equipment and adaptations will be needed in order for Josie to take part in everyday living and for the family to aid her independence.
There is no effect on Josie's cognitive ability.
Me, being able to perform physically on a good level, it feels a true privilege when meeting with Josie, a girl that still wants to achieve so much.
When setting my goal to attempt a double Ironman distance race in Wales (The Brutal Extreme Triathlon https://www.brutalevents.co.uk/ ) which will be far my biggest physical challenge to date (Swim 7.6km, Bike 373km, Run 84km with a total of 8'000m of elevation all hopefully in under 42hours) there could be no better cause to do this effort than for Josie and the Chubb family.
I reach out to my family, friends, colleagues and people out there to support this endeavour and pledge whatever you feel comfortable with.
Thank you all for your support and help!
With my deepest gratitude
Andreas
