Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
This year I decided to sign up for my first marathon, ever! I am excited to be running the marathon for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Your donation will contribute to the funds needed to support ICR's mission which primarily goes into cancer research. Over the years, ICR has made significant research contributions. You can find their latest accomplishments here.
My sole motivation in running this race is in honor of my younger brother, Eduardo (Edu). Edu was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) when he was 5 years old. Throughout his lifetime, he underwent numerous difficulties. This includes week-long stints at the hospital, failed clinical trials, a failed bone marrow transplant, and more.
But Edu wasn't defined by his disease. He was inquisitive, silly, charming, honest (sometimes brutally-so). He loved sports, dancing, painting, playing board games, and so much more. He had a larger-than-life personality. If you were lucky enough to know him, you loved him.
Running a marathon will be physically and mentally daunting. But it's nothing compared to what Edu, and the millions of others who are affected by cancer, go through. Many a time when things are hard, I think of him and put things through this perspective. He would have been so lucky to have the opportunity to even experience the "trivial" things most of us like to complain about.
It's a privilege for me to be in good health and be able-bodied to do this marathon in memory of munchkin.
Thank you for your contribution and support for all those who are affected by cancer.
P.S. Any contributions help! Of course, multiple contributions, the more so. (;
