Story
I'm fundraising & going the distance for young people with cancer to try and make a small difference . One of many activities being undertaken in September by colleagues across the North for this charity and I will be applying for some match funding from my caring employer .
Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words "you have cancer." Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing the specialised nursing care and support they need to get through it.
No one wants to believe that their daughter will ever need the support of the charity once at age 14 , never mind twice . At the age of 21, a young person coping with treatment on an adult ward with older patients can feel all the more isolated, dealing with emotional and physical challenges . You would swap places tomorrow but can't. I recognise that the Trust does some good work when lives are turned upside down ( as do the opticians in our towns and cities who diagnose these conditions and save lives; amazing brain surgeons working in the NHS at Manchester Childrens Hospital & Preston hospital ; nurses ; the oncologist teams who monitor post op health / Christies Hospital and so forth ). Sometimes it might be as small as a food delivery voucher for the ward when you are feeling a little better, a glimpse of normality .
Trying to catch up on a training plan, having already fallen over my own two clumsy feet but determined to do this !
Thank you in advance for any support , however small....
