Story
I want to raise £20,000 in the next 12 months for rare cancers.
My story
In early 2020 when we weren't even thinking about covid yet, I was diagnosed with a 1 in a million rare cancer - Thymic cancer. Rare cancers are less well known and harder to diagnose - you have cancer but what kind? That can be followed by lots of tests, a lack of information and an incredibly uncertain, and limited treatment path which is frankly at times, terrifying.
I've spent 3.5 years living as much as possible, trying not to publicly share that I have cancer, not wanting to be judged for it, or treated differently for it. I’ve had multiple surgeries, chemos, radiotherapy and immunotherapies. Constantly juggling treatment, a very supportive job and my actual life.
Now it's time to use my not-normally-quiet voice to make a difference. I need to do something to help prevent others from going through this crap in the future.
Raising money
In the last 2 years I've walked 2 marathons with amazing friends to raise money for Cancer charities.
With the help of friends, family and perhaps you, my plan is to raise £20,000 in the next 12 months specifically for rare cancer research.
Perhaps there will be a walk, a swim, a bake sale, a party... lots of ideas to which I cannot physically currently commit. So for now I'm just publicly setting myself the challenge!
Any and all donations, or grander fundraising activities and ideas gratefully received in the hope to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
