Khalils Team are taking part in BirminghamMemoryWalk
For anyone that knows us as a family you will be aware we had the biggest loss of our lives in January. We lost our beloved father Khalil Ur-Rehman Khan. Our father had dementia. Over the years this horrible disease took everything away from the person we loved. At first it was the little things and then it became the bigger things. After a number of strokes the last year of his life was painful to watch. The disease meant we were always trying to save him from doing things that were harmful to himself but the disease did not allow him to understand why he was being stopped. He required 24 hour care. He never liked hospitals or being away from home and just as he took care of us when we were small we did everything we could to make sure he spent his time in his family home. He slowly deteriorated and went into hospital for the final time. This was heartbreaking for us as a family as he just wanted to come home and did not understand the treatment he required - again a horrible symptom of dementia.
He returned to his Lord on the 18th January 2024 and since then we have all had a large hole in hearts that can never be filled. We fully understand the battle of dementia and how hard it can be. Therefore, we have decided to do a memory walk on behalf of our dad. Every year, thousands of incredible people come together to walk for a future where dementia no longer devastates lives.
