Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Carson JustGiving page.
We’re a multi-generational team running the Belfast and London marathons to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer. Cousins Kate, Amy and Kerry are taking on the whole 26.2 mile distance, whilst ten family members and close friends are completing relay legs: Valerie, Karen, Joanne, Melissa, Kate, Ashley, Ewan, Mark, Philip, and Lucy.
We are deeply passionate about raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer, as we have seen first-hand the impact it can have. Our much beloved brother, uncle, and friend Robert was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in January 2019, and later that year, a second family member - dad, uncle, and brother-in-law Richard - was also diagnosed with the disease. While Richard’s treatment was thankfully successful, we lost Robert in April 2023.
We were lucky enough to get four additional years with Robert thanks to the work of various research bodies and care services, but of course, no amount of time with him could have been enough. His passing has been immensely difficult for us all, and we want to do everything we can to prevent other families going through the same pain.
We’re raising money for two organisations, and when you donate you can choose where you wish your funds to be allocated. The first is Prostate Cancer UK, whose work spans life-changing research, treatment, and care. The second is the prostate cancer research team at Queens University Belfast, led by Professor Joe O’Sullivan who was a huge support to Robert in his final years.
All donations, big or small, are hugely appreciated. Thank you.
