Story
Let me start by saying, hiking is not my natural habitat, on account of the fact that I am incredibly clumsy and accident prone, which increases when venturing uphill. I also get angry when it's cold. But on the other hand I live for an adventure, I like to be uncomfortable and to push myself. I like to try a little bit everyday to make a tiny difference whilst I am here.
For the past 3 years I've had the honour of being a trustee for Tiny Changes. During this time I've witnessed the extraordinary kindness of people from across the world who have given their time and effort to support a charity that has meant so much to them. I've worked with an incredibly brave and bold staff team who have worked so hard to take this charity from small beginnings and set it on a path for a huge future. I've battled with my own experience of mental health and mental illness and I've remembered those I love who are no longer here to live life with us.
I am beyond proud to be part of the Tiny Changes community.
Tiny Changes is Scotland's first national youth mental health charity.
We believe that Scotland’s young people deserve great mental health, and we believe in their insight and innovation to make this possible. We exist to harness and nurture the talent of young people to find solutions that work for them.
Over 3 years, we supported over 4,000 children and young people via small grants to both organisations and individual young leaders. As we move into an exciting new phase of work in 2024, We’re working with young leaders to design innovative mental health projects in their own communities.
This October (2024) I am heading to Nepal with my great friends Kenny and David to set out on a trek to Everest Base Camp. The trip will take around 14 days and I know it will be a challenge from start to finish (and I'm not JUST referring to the company of the boys). There will be tough hiking trails, suspension bridges, glaciers, possible sickness and heights of 5364m. However, I have had this on my bucket list for a long time and what better way to do it than to raise some funds along the way to keep me going if/when it gets tough.
I have seen first hand the difference donations to Tiny Changes make, and I can say without a doubt that every penny raised will help us to make young minds feel better.
Anything you can give will be hugely appreciated. And whilst we are in pain, have blisters, spewing at altitude, fighting each other over who snores the loudest - it will all be worth it.
Together, we'll make tiny changes to earth.
