Amy treks the Sahara Desert for St Peter's Hospice

Sahara Trek 2025 · 5 February 2025 ·
Well, this all started with a conversation in the Hot Tub!
My good friend and colleague Katie, had the idea of signing us both up for this trek, I must admit it seemed a good idea when relaxing in the hot tub, I somehow didn’t think too much about the 30 degree heat in the day, freezing nights, no toilets on route…..but hey…..it wouldn’t be a challenge if it wasn’t!
As well as feeling extremely privileged to work for St Peter’s Hospice, and truly appreciate all the care, hard work and importance of hospice has in the Bristol community, it was only after experiencing it first hand when the hospice cared for my late father in law, Rob. The Hospice at Home nurses provided not only the specialist care that Rob needed in his last days, but they were there with open arms for myself and my family with the support and comfort we needed.
The trek will be a personal challenge to me, and over the 4 days we will trek approximately 45 kilometres. There isn’t an actual route to follow due to the sand dunes changing and sand storms, but we will be led by local berbers. We’ll be setting up camp each night in the desert and while I am excited about seeing beautiful sunrises and starry nights, I am equally anxious about the hot days, cold nights and walking on the sand!
I know it will be an adventure of a lifetime, with so many magical memories, but it will also be a huge challenge and I can’t think of a better way to remember Rob and raise considerable funds for St Peter’s Hospice who can support families like they did for us.
I really appreciate any donations you are able to give to support me and my big challenge as as well as supporting an amazing charity.
