Story
Over the last few years, the cost of being a student has soared. The cost-of-living crisis hasn’t gone away—it has simply become the new normal. For many students, the financial pressure is becoming overwhelming.
When students are worrying about how to pay rent or afford their next meal, it becomes incredibly difficult to focus on studies. It also makes it harder to take part in the social experiences that shape university life.
At the University of Manchester, more than 1,000 students applied for donor-funded hardship grants last year—the highest number to date. Demand for support is expected to remain extremely high throughout 2025. Every student should have the opportunity to succeed, no matter their financial background.
That’s why I’ve signed up for the 10km Purple Wave challenge, along with my brilliant flatmates, to help raise vital funds for students facing financial hardship. We’re proud to be part of a university that supports its students, and we want to play our part in making sure that continues.
If you're able to, please consider sponsoring us. Your support could make a huge difference to a student who needs it.
Thank you so much!
