Story
I'm completing the Three Peaks challenge for Beat, the UK's leading eating disorder charity. Beat provides vital support not only for those suffering from the effects of an eating disorder but also their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.
Beats research highlights that despite the fact 1.25 million people in the UK have a diagnosed eating disorder, between 2009 to 2019 total UK funding for research was just £1.13 per person affected per year. These figures don't include the huge increase in individuals suffering since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having struggled myself with disordered eating in recent years I know firsthand how difficult it can be to access support. While many are having to pay privately to receive treatment this isn't an option available at all, making it vital charities like Beat generate sufficient funding in order to continue their mission providing life saving support for everyone affected in anyway by eating disorders.
The challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon with a distance of 23 miles and total ascent being 3064 metres within 24 hours. Completing the three peaks challenge will signify how strong I have become, both mentally and physically over the last couple of years, and be a reminder that recovery is an option which will allow you to do things you never dreamed possible!
