My name is Amelia Mcnalty , I'm currently a 3rd year adult nursing student at Leeds Beckett university. I am raising money for a 2 week volunteering trip to Uganda;

Monday 29th July - Monday 12th August 2024.

The charity I am volunteering with is Project Play. This charity enriches disadvantaged children's lives through play. They support children's physical, psychological and social development and equip them with important life skills to boost their prospects, harnessing the power of play to bring about change.

Childhood should be full of fun and opportunities to explore, but for children in Uganda, experiencing poverty, hunger and humanitarian disasters, it can be a source of trauma. I cannot wait to play a part in building a brighter future for these children through the power of play.

I will spend my weekdays turning an empty field into a playground at a local primary school and spending time with the children helping them with their education. On the weekends, I will be exploring and learning about their culture.

Being able to help children that are less fortunate and increasing their quality of life whilst also enjoying a once in a lifetime trip really means a lot to me, and those in Uganda. I'm really excited about this opportunity as it something that I have always wanted to do and wanted to reward myself whilst helping others as I come to the end of my degree before I go into my full time career as a nurse.
