Story

On 28th July 2022, my amazing dad, my hero and the rock of our family, lost his very brief battle with sepsis following emergency surgery. We never got chance to say goodbye, which is the hardest part of losing him. I miss him every day and if I can help just one family, by increasing the awareness of sepsis, then maybe that will help ease the pain of losing dad.

Dad had never been unwell in his life.the tummy ache he had for a few days, turned out to be a blockage from a bowel cancer obstruction. Emergency surgery went well, but unfortunately he developed sepsis, and was rushed to ICU overnight, and he never woke up.

Dad was the centre of our family. A gentle man who loved sport, fishing, a glass of wine, and most of all his family. A year on, and the pain is still there. He left a huge hole in my heart. My confidante, friend and father gone forever. Heartbroken but moving forward.

Fundraising raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.

It also funds vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. Sepsis UK also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
