Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 1st of December 2024 my dad sadly passed away suddenly due to an aerotic aneurysm. This is a blood vessel dilation, where the artery or vein swells to an abnormal size.
I hate planes, my dad always wanted to fly unfortunately he never got the chance. So I am overcoming a fear and flying for him while jumping 10,000+ ft to help raise awareness of this amazing charity.
The jump will take place on what would have been his 70th birthday, please help me support this amazing charity that help and support so many families through these difficult times.
Founded by a small group of Aortic Dissection survivors in 2016, they grew rapidly to become the national patient association in 2018 and a registered charity in 2022. They are the voice of Aortic Dissection patients and their families in the UK & Ireland.
Their work involves raising awareness of Aortic Dissection; providing vital information and support for patients and families affected by the condition; working with healthcare providers to improve diagnosis & treatment and reduce healthcare inequalities; and partnering with researchers to bring forward new insights that improve future care for Aortic Dissection patients.
The main risk factors are smoking, a family history of aneurysms, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes
An aneurysm usually grows slowly, around 1–2mm per year. Once it reaches a certain size, the risk of it rupturing becomes too high and surgery is needed to repair it.
Three-quarters of aortic aneurysms occur in the abdomen and this type is relatively common, affecting about 1.5 per cent of men over 65.
A rupture may never occur but if it does, it is fatal in 80 per cent of cases. Ruptured aortic aneurysms cause 5,000 deaths in the UK each year. They are most common in men over 65 - they are responsible for 1 in 75 deaths of men in this age group.
Thankyou ♥️
