Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am proud to be fundraising for alcohol change
As a child and daughter of now deceased alcoholics, and generally just being surrounded by alcohol all my life. Being impacted by the behaviour of these alcoholics, this is a charity that spoke to me. I watch my own children being impacted by their own father suffering with what I now know is a disease. This idea of alcoholism being a disease really hit home, and has made me realise more needs to be done to support alcoholics, and to undestand that alcholism is not always a choice, and those who suffer most likely cannot see a way out
In England there are an estimated 602,391 dependent drinkers. Only 18% are receiving treatment.
Alcohol is a causal factor in more than 60 medical conditions.
In 2019/20 in England, 74,618 people were in treatment at specialist alcohol misuse services, a fall of 19% since 2013/14.
In 2015/16 in England, victims believed the offender(s) to be under the influence of alcohol in 39% of all violent incidents.
In 2016, 23% of 15 year olds reported having been drunk in the last four weeks.
Please donate to enable alcohol change to continue to:
Spread improved knowledge
Improve Policy and regulation
Assist in shifting cultural norms
Improve drinking behaviours
Increase the support and treatment within different organisations and practitioners on the UK frontline
On a personal note, it rook me a while to figure out how and when I wanted to support this charity and I came across the Shakespeare run, this is where my dads ashes were laid to rest last year, so it seemed fitting that this would be it
Thanks all
Aman
