Story
I’m excited to take part in the #RightsRealityCheck Campaign over the next 30 days. It’s to raise vital funds for Prisoners of Conscience (PoC) who provide lifesaving support to people in grave danger for simply wanting to exercise their basic human rights like education, fighting oppression or loving who they want to love. If I lived in one of these countries, I would persecuted too or most likely already be in prison for doing nothing apart from living my life.
I have a job I love and a bank account with my own money. I own a house. I own and drive a car. I go for a walk without my husband. I enjoy reading academic papers as part of my work, and also like watching rubbish TV. I choose my own hairstyle, go where I want, when I want, wearing what I want.
I have my own opinions and I enjoy expressing them including shouting at the TV when I don’t agree with a politician. In fact, probably everyone close to me would be in prison with me.
Many of you will also will already be very familiar with the United Nations universal declaration of human rights which lists The 30 articles to which applies to every single person In the world.
So every morning for the next 30 days, as I savour my morning coffee, I will mark each one of the 30 human rights in turn. I’ll also donate £3.00 (approx cost of a Americano) to Prisoners of Conscience every day for the 30 days to celebrate each freedom. It would be amazing if you could have a virtual coffee with me on one of the days and donate the cost - every penny counts. Thank you very much 🙏
