Story
It's almost here just a couple days to go. All the training has been done, just got to get to Calella, put my bike back together and then eat all the carbs i can find.
Equally excited and terrified just now but ready to embrace the challenge of becoming an IRONMAN!!
The Foundation of Light is the official charity of Sunderland Football Club. We support the people of the North East to live happier and healthier lives. Our aim is to use the power of football to tackle some of region's biggest challenges - low life expectancy, poverty, poor mental health, unemployment and anti-social behaviour.
Working at the Foundation I get to see the impact of the fantastic work we do on a daily basis - believe me, it is staggering!!
Every week we deliver over 40 programmes and activities for all ages from 18 months through to 98 years. Providing opportunities for people to improves their lives through better education and employment opportunities, to be more physically active, to reduce social isolation and loneliness and to improve mental wellbeing.
So what am I doing?
IRONMAN BARCELONA!!
Yes, in October I will be swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and then running a marathon. Hopefully all of that in under 12 hours!!
Yes, I can run marathons, but I've never tried it after the swimming and cycling. Those activities alone are a big challenge for me, putting all three together is going to be a major challenge. So please, please, please, if you can afford to spare a pound, please do so so help make this whole challenge more worthwhile.
To help with training and to keep me motivated when the going gets tough I am also doing some 'smaller' challenges over the next few months.
First up is a 5km swimathon (April 28th) That's 200 lengths of the 25m pool at Sunderland Aquatic Centre with a cut off time of 2 hours.
Then it will be 115 mile bike ride in July covering over 10,000ft of climbing around the beautiful Northumberland countryside
Every penny raised through these endeavours will go directly towards delivering sessions to the local communities we work in, helping us to work with over 20,000 people every year to help them be the best they can be, creating happier and healthier communities.
THANK YOU
