Story
Those who know me, know how passionate I am about learning and education. As the first member in my family to attend university (receiving an undergraduate degree, a graduate diploma and most recently a masters), my life and story has been changed for the better!
However, half a billion of the worlds illiterate adults are women. This trend has not changed in 20 years. We know that during conflict, girls are 2.5 times more likely to drop out of school than boys are and 48% of girls who are out-of-school today are unlikely to ever enrol in school again. Women who have missed out on an education due to humanitarian crisis, poverty, early marriage and discriminatory norms, face immense barriers accessing training and job opportunities as well as participating in the digital world.
So in 2024 I am doing my part! I will be walking part of the Larapinta trail in Central Australia (+50kms) to raise much needed funds for the UN Women's Second Chance Education Program. The purpose of this program is to provide women with access to educational pathways to ensure no one behind.
