Story
We need your support 💜
I was due to run the first Rob Burrow Leeds marathon last year, which was 3 weeks before my 60th birthday, but unfortunately had to withdraw because I was diagnosed with high grade diffuse large B cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I had already set up my fundraising page and so I decided to challenge myself by running the 26.2 miles over months rather on the day, whilst going through chemotherapy. This gave me a focus and helped me get through my treatment. I finally completed my challenge on the 23/12/2023, after being given the all clear on the 27/09/2023 and starting back to running again. I was delighted to be able to raise £2,371 for such a worthy cause.
When I was diagnosed I remember my consultant say that although I wouldn’t be able run the marathon that year but once they had got me through my treatment I could run it the following year. I’ve always had that in my thoughts and once I was given the all clear I decided that it would be my next challenge.
MND is such a cruel disease. I thankfully had a light at the end of my tunnel, unfortunately people living with MND don’t have that light. If by completing the 26.2 miles and raising money I can help to make life easier for the MND community, my efforts will all be worthwhile.
I will be walk/running the 26.2 miles as I know I won’t be fit enough to run it all, but by hopefully completing it 9 months after finishing my treatment, and raising much needed funds for such a worthy cause, I will be absolutely delighted 😀
£500 could provide a tablet device with specialist communication software, allowing someone to communicate with loved ones
Every penny raised from The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will bring us closer to achieving our ultimate mission; a world free from MND.
Thank you for reading my story and supporting me 💜
