London Landmarks Half Marathon 2025 for Anaphylaxis UK

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2025 · 6 April 2025 ·
Thank you for visiting my page. I’m proud to be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2025 and raising important funds and awareness for Anaphylaxis UK, a charity of great importance to me.
Those that know me will be aware that I vowed never to run a half marathon again, after my only experience of completing the Cambridge Half Marathon in 2024! However, when I came across the opportunity to fundraise for Anaphylaxis UK, it felt too good an opportunity to pass up.
I was diagnosed with anaphylaxis to cows’ milk by the age of 6 months, following a substantial reaction to a strawberry fromage frais. With doctors initially believing strawberry to be the culprit before decidedly confirming a severe cow’s milk protein allergy.
Living with anaphylaxis has definitely not been easy and having experienced several anaphylactic reactions in my lifetime has not only had an effect on myself, but my family and friends.
Having experienced biphasic and triphasic anaphylaxis, where symptoms recur without re-exposure to the trigger allergen, resulting in the need to always carry a minimum of 4 EpiPens. This has had a resounding influence on what handbags can be purchased to fit all the medication in!
Severe anaphylactic reactions have been anxiety-inducing to say the least, and I am grateful for the support of my family and friends as I navigate living with anaphylaxis.
Anaphylaxis UK has been very helpful providing invaluable tools and resources to support those with allergies. I particularly enjoy the podcast series and find receiving the allergy alert notifications extremely helpful.
In the UK, 1-2% of adults and 5-8% of children have a food allergy; this equates to nearly 3 million people. Hospital admissions due to allergies and anaphylaxis in England have nearly doubled in the last twenty years, and 20% of serious allergic reactions to food happen whilst a child is at school.
Anaphylaxis UK is the only UK-wide charity operating solely for the growing numbers of people at risk of serious allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. For 30 years, they have been striving for a brighter and safer future for everyone living with a serious allergy by providing trusted and scientifically-based resources and training to individuals and families, education settings, businesses, and healthcare professionals.
Thank you for supporting my journey and the vital work of Anaphylaxis UK.
