Story
I am fundraising for Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.
These serious mental illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. 1.25 million people in the UK have a diagnosed eating disorder. They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, and up to one in four sufferers are male. Eating disorders cost the UK's economy £16.8 billion each year.
I spent 2 years in hospital battling anorexia nervosa. Whilst in hospital I receive an amazing amount of support from my family and friends and the hospital I was staying in Schoen Clinic Newbridge. I was admitted to hospital in December 2021 and stayed there for 16 months, however could not always receive the amount of support that was needed due to the funds not being there. These people saved my life and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support. I am raising money towards beat to help raise awareness and support. Me and 4 of my friends will be challenging the Edale skyline route in the Peak District which will be 120 miles put together for 6 of us in 1 day. These friends have been there for me when I needed them the most and I would not be able to do this without them !
We will also be using our sixth form centre to help raise awareness and support at Queen Elizabeth’s grammar school.
