Story
On the 4th of January 2014 i was 9 years old when i was admitted to hospital i was in there for 10 days i don't remember much about it but i know that i needed 2 blood transfusions a blood test every day and a coirse of steroids while i was on the steroids the doctors noticed that my blood sugars where high they thought that it could be my body reacting to the steroids but when i stopped talking them my bloods didn't get any better before i was well enough to come home the diabetes doctor came to see me and my mum about treating me as type 1 diabetic i was given a testing kit and insulin pens and a nurse showed my mum how to do the injections.
A few days later i came home and we slowly adjusted to the injections my mum did all of it for me as i still wasn't that well because of my high blood sugars i missed about a whole term of school even when i was back at school i had a lot of appointments regular blood tests to make sure i wasn't going to get ill again as well as seeing the diabetes team my nurse and doctor were so good during the first few years of learning to look after my diabetes.
About a year after my diagnosis i did my first injection after that me and my mum shared the injecting between us my dad also did a few. Now almost 10 years later i have a dexcom g6 and a t slim pump it makes managing my diabetes so much easier now i don't have to inject in public i can work out the carbs press a few buttons on the pump and let it do the rest for me.
My mum and dad have been with me every single step during my diabetes journey. My mum has been to all the appointments while my dad works hard i am so grateful to them both.
