Story
I am swimming on 6th December to mark the anniversary of losing my parents. I wanted to do something meaningful on this day, something positive. So I am swimming 100 lengths hopefully in under an hour not using legs, arms only, (mermaid swim) for Team Jed and Muscular Dystrophy. Jed is an an amazing and inspirational young man who is the Grandson of lovely Maureen who comes to my weekly exercise with Alice classes.
Team Jed is a collective of individuals who are in the constant pursuit of a treatment or cure for Muscular Dystrophy. All money that is raised for our Team's fund is dedicated solely to research into muscle-wasting conditions so that future generations can live a life without physical limitations.
At the age of 8 years old, Jed Thirkettle was diagnosed with Ullrich Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. The prognosis? His parents were told he could be in a wheelchair within the next few years, and on a ventilator by 14 and lucky to make it past 20. From this point forward, Team Jed was born, with friends, family and groups of people coming together from all walks of life to raise over £250,000 throughout the years.
Jed ran the Junior Great North Run many many years ago, and he will be turning 24 later this year,
