Story
Following my nephew Lucas being diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a devastating muscle-wasting disease - I’m on a mission to fundraise for Duchenne UK, to help support continued vital research into the disease.
I aim to run 84 miles from Charmouth to Studland, over the world famous Jurassic coastline. There is a strict 24 hour time limit to complete the course so no hanging about and we’ll need to self-navigate to check points along the coastline throughout the day and into the night 😴
I’m totally out of my comfort zone with this challenge. Inspired by Lucas and his determination, resilience and positive attitude to tackle Duchenne head on I’m aiming to complete the course under the target time and in the process smash our fundraising target.
DMD is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys.
The charity was started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated on previous fundraising efforts, your support was an incredible boost on the tougher training days and commitment to build time on the legs.
No matter how small a donation you can make, it will really make a difference.
Together, we will end Duchenne.
