Story

In December 2022 Alfie’s life changed forever. We found out after 9 and a half years that he had been living with several undiagnosed health conditions. The results of this have been life changing for Alfie. In just over 2 years since his diagnosis he has had a total of 13 operations, his last one in November 2024 when he had a hemi-nephrectomy and he is now due another major operation (possibly his biggest one yet) very shortly. He has endured extended hospital stays, and attended countless appointments as well as many visits to A&E. Alfie’s complex medical needs have resulted in irreversible bladder and kidney damage. This requires lifelong monitoring and management.

Alder Hey has become a very familiar place for us. His team have been amazing and we are forever grateful to them for everything they have done and continue to do to support Alfie and our family.

Alfie is an ambassador for Alder Hey Children’s Charity and is on a mission to keep fundraising for Oli’s Safari Walk for a third year running. Something he could not achieve without all his wonderful supporters who see the challenges he faces daily, yet he remains positive, happy and always smiling and laughing despite everything he goes through.

Alfie is also a member of the Youth Forum which gives him a voice to help shape the future of healthcare for children like him.
