Story

I’m fundraising for Hope 4 Life NI / Uberheros. A charity which provides mental health intervention, something that is very close to my heart.

Who doesn’t like a little bit of adrenaline?

In October I will be taking to the sky to do a 15,000 feet skydive, yes you read that correctly. Ever see a baby monkey cling to its mother? Well that will be me, I’m scared, excited all in one. Who knows if I will see anything 🫣 but there’s no better way to fight my fears than to do it for a great cause.

If someone had’ve asked me a few years back what was mental health I would’ve given them a brief description. Over the years I’ve become a lot more educated in it. I had no idea it was going to come knocking on my door and unfortunately we can’t answer and say ‘sorry not today’. I work with mental health organisations in sport, I’ve completed Mental health programmes and education, I also work closely with highly commendable professionals who have taught me a great amount of knowledge on a different level.

Recognising the signs that a child may be struggling with their mental health can be really hard. Mental health comes in all different forms and not all are visible. 50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14 and 75% by the age of 24. How devastating and heartfelt is this. No child should ever have to endure this and no adult should ever feel alone. Too many people are living in darkness and losing their lives due to this Illness which can be covered up by a smile, but behind that smile there’s a dark shadow lurking. Let us try and prevent that. We never know whose door it will knock next.

I attended the uberheros awards evening back in April and to hear the stories for those young children, it was phenomenal. Hope 4 Life Ni/Uberheros have each child at heart, they go above and beyond to give support and deliver intervention in all ages in Northern Ireland.

I couldnt possibly put into words how amazing this charity is so below is a little insight of who they are and what they do.

Please no matter how small It will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Alexis

Whether it be in the sky or with your feet firmly on the ground, you can support us to deliver our Early Intervention and Suicide Prevention workshops to children, young people & adults, better preparing them for the surprises life can throw and empowering them to better protect their mental health.

Your support will enable us to reach thousands more children and young people through our early intervention programme called Uberheroes® , where we re-tell the real stories and lived experiences of local young people’s mental ill-health though our superhero style comics, these stories have helped over 31,000 local children to better understand what mental ill-health is, how to navigate these challenges and access help when its needed, as well as how to protect our mental health moving forward. We have also directly helped over 8,500 children who are in crisis through our 24hour online helpline.

Hope 4Life NI believes that everyone has a basic right to good mental health with the emphasis on prevention; we are committed to working for this right to become a reality for all within Northern Ireland, Ireland and the UK. We deliver programmes that have been positively impacting on people’s lives for nearly two decades, we share the knowledge and experience from global research on our programmes to empower people to understand that simple changes can and do increase resilience and enable wellbeing. We apply a pre-emptive approach to positive mental health by working with individuals, groups and organisations to improve and in some cases eliminate those triggers that can affect poor mental health, we also help you to identify early tell-tale warning signs to help you put into action a personal plan to control and reduce issues though our evidence-based approach.Through our staff, volunteers, supporters and mental health champions, we pledge to work vigorously to ensure that we enable as many people as we can to improve their lives by helping them to help themselves to good mental health. The evidence from global research underpins our vision that early intervention is key to reducing the issues facing individuals within our communities.
