Why is this charity important to me?

Because it’s hard enough being a woman here in the US running. It’s even harder abroad. This organization works with girls and women in Iraq and Afghanistan and provides them a safe place to participate in sports and run. And they are even working on expanding to other countries.

Regardless of where they run, women are in constant danger. Women have recently been attacked in the US and one went missing in Australia. While this is slightly a different situation than what the core mission of the organization is, it has the same issue at the heart. The inequality in difficulty it is for a woman to run freely without fear.

In a recent poll by Adidas, 92% of women responded saying they are afraid to run, or have been afraid to run. That includes me. I have had fears running both here at home and when I've been abroad. I've turned down corners that looked unsafe and have had to turn around and go a different way. I've carried blade and spray on me to protect myself.

This is why this organization is so important. Women and girls deserve the same chances as men. We deserve to fly free.
