Story
In January 2022, I suffered a heart attack. Subsequent examination revealed that I had a heart defect that would reduce my lifespan by 10-15 years. In May 2022, I had open-heart surgery, and since then I have been in cardiac rehabilitation. I returned to running in August, and I have been working hard to attain my former level of fitness.
In May 2023, one year after surgery, I will trek 100 miles through Snowdonia (from Machynlleth to Conwy) over five days, the Eryri 100, in support of the British Heart Foundation.
In the UK today, someone dies of heart disease every three minutes. In the USA, heart disease is the number one cause of death. The British Heart Foundation annually funds £100m towards heart disease research. For example, £12.4m is presently allocated to fund clinical trials focused on treatment of heart attacks and heart valve disease, the conditions from which I suffered.
I have benefited from the tremendous advances in cardiac science and medicine. So I hope you will join me in supporting the groundbreaking research of the British Heart Foundation. Please consider sponsoring the Eryri 100.
I will be joined by my friends Hayden Wood and Jim Norris. If you are interested in participating, I invite you to join us on Day 5, from Bethesda to Conwy (17.8 miles; 3,673 ft ascent; 4,074 ft descent; 11 hours). Alternatively, you may wish to join us for the post-hike celebrations in Conwy. I am happy to provide you with details.
I welcome your support. Thank you.
