Story
In 1990 my mother, Veronica Linklater, started The New School in Butterstone, Perthshire, for children with learning difficulties for whom mainstream education provided no answers. My sister, Freya, was the school's first student. The school helped her and generations of neurodiverse children to walk over the hot coals of a hostile system to find their confidence, their talent and their vocation. In 2018, the charitable Jane Moore Trust took over the school, now called "The Moore House Academy, Dunkeld", and has continued to fight the corner for vulnerable children and to provide desperately needed services to local authorities in Scotland. Walking over hot embers is an ancient practice symbolising the determination to overcome fear. By sponsoring this event, you'll be helping both the young people and me to conquer our fears and help The Jane Moore Trust to provide struggling children whom the system has failed with care and education, psychological support, access to employment, social housing and belief in themselves.
