I’m back in the saddle with The FireFlies…

The Tour De FireFlies is 8 days of riding a bike 1100 km and climbing 62,000 feet across The PYRÉNÉES, in aid of BEATING BLOOD CANCERS.

Established in 2001, the ‘flies are a bunch of amateur cyclists who raise money to support the fight against cancer. Inspired by the courage of those fighting cancer, every year a band of brothers and sisters nervously set out to ride the highest and hardest climbs of the Tour De France. We tackle the most gruelling climbs and scale the highest peaks, which brings incredible highs, miserable lows, pain, and moments of darkness, doubt and suffering.

But this is nothing compared to the suffering endured by the countless people fighting Cancer, every day.

I’ve ridden with the Fireflies 3 times before, and all I can say is its really f***ing hard. Hours and hours in the saddle for 8 days solid, riding up mountains that seemingly never end, battered by wind, rain, sun, snow and knackered by lack of sleep. It’s the hardest but the most grounding thing many of us will ever do. This year I’m riding in the memory of Rachel. Her courage, strength and grace will live with me forever and I know the thought of her bravery fighting the cancer which took her from her beautiful family and her many friends, will drag me up some steep hills when I’m tired and want to stop.
