Walking from Munich to Venice along Der Traumpfad (the Dream Trail) was something I planned to do in 2020. Along came Covid and plans went on hold. I planned it again for this year and it coincided with coming to an end on a long running project.

That was all going nicely and then in mid August my brother Alan was found to have an incurable brain tumour. What was striking was that the doctors are open about not knowing much about why brain cancer happens in some people and not others. And they can't cure it, they can only lessen the symptoms and make a little bit more time.

So this trip is about thinking of him and doing something practical to enhance care in this area.

The chosen charity says "Help us ensure every NHS brain cancer patient can access the best treatment and care. Our aim is that anyone with brain cancer can choose to access excellent specialist services delivered through the Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence initiative."

The trek takes me due South from Munich across the Bavarian Alps, then the Austrian Alps and into the Dolomites then finally across the Plain to Venice. It's about 600 km and 24,000 metres of climbing. I'll be walking for a month, aiming to reach Venice on 28th September.
