I’m walking in memory of my son, Alarik Greenland, who succumbed to serious mental illness and tragically took his own life in 29.1.2023. I'll be joining a number of other bereaved parents and siblings as we trek the 24 miles of the Yorkshire Three Peaks (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) in total of 1585m (5200ft) of climbing and in under 12 hours.

if you knew Alarik, you will remember that he spent most of his time in the outdoors, talking with the Totnes community, walking, climbing trees, and assisting volunteers with planting trees. He also made the most beautiful crystal trees which you can still see on his web site, which also includes an episode of Country File that he featured in:

This challenge in the wildness of Yorkshire, therefore, seemed an appropriate way to honouring him and the generosity he showed to the community of Totnes. No task was too much for Alarik when he was called upon for help, and there are so many stories of the way he helped others in their time of need, including giving £100 to a homeless man who needed a train ticket to move on and make a new start.

How can you help?

You can help me realise this goal by donating to THE GOOD GRIEF PROJECT.

This charity was started by parents who lost their child and is dedicated to helping the bereaved by finding new, active and creative ways of expressing their grief.

I have attended their grieving retreats which involve transforming grief into creativity. For me, it was about continuing my relationship with Alarik and honouring the fullness of his life.

All funds will go to helping less advantaged bereaved families attend these Active Grief Weekend retreats.

Thank you in advance for your generosity,

Claire xxx
