Story
I'm running the Edinburgh Marathon dressed as a Globe for Worldwide Cancer Research.
This is for Gran Mechie, Christine Brown, Gran Moss and Grandpa Moss. I'll be running with a tear in my eye, but love in my heart. With the memory of these incredible, brave and inspiring people every step of the way.
Gran Moss survived her cancer diagnosis. We lost Grandpa and Christine to Pancreatic cancer, and Gran Mechie to bladder cancer. I never knew my Grandpa because his life was cut short by Pancreatic cancer six months after I was born. 1 in 2 of us will be diagnosed with cancer. A pitiful 1% of people survive Pancreatic cancer after five years. In Scotland, sadly 44 people die every day from cancer.
The aim is to set a Guinness World Record for a marathon dressed as an astronomical body (a Globe). I need to run faster than 3:30:36 every step in full full costume. However, the logistics are still to be confirmed. There are very tight rules I need to follow, but I'll be running as a Globe regardless.
I will look daft. It'll be tough. Marathons are not fun, they're too long, painful and energy sapping. But helping our loved ones and those living with cancer is what counts.
Please give a little, to become a Curestarter, to fund discovery research. By making a donation you are literally starting cancer cures. I've proudly been a Curestarter at Worldwide Cancer Research for eight years. It's a fantastic charity in Edinburgh, doing wonderful things worldwide.
Your donation will help people with cancer now and in the future. Please give what you can and thank you so much for your support.
Sweepstake - If you'd like to guess my finishing time and win a prize, let me know your guess and make a wee donation. The winner (closest) will receive a special prize.
Thank you so much, Alan.
P.S. More info on such a brilliant cause can be found here. Don't forget to tell me your guess! https://www.worldwidecancerresearch.org/
