Akash's fundraiser for Astro Brain Tumour Fund

Great Manchester Run 2025 · 18 May 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
In May 2024, one of my best mates Archie Goodburn was sadly diagnosed with 3 Oligodendrogliomas, an incurable form of brain cancer. I have had the pleasure of knowing Archie since we studied together at Loughborough University and became close friends through our shared trauma of studying for Chemical Engineering. Since then we have kept in contact with one another since his move back up to Edinburgh where he can focus on his swimming.
Prior to his diagnosis he managed to compete in the Commonwealth games where he represented Scotland finishing 9th in both the 50 and 100m breaststroke. However just earlier in 2024 he narrowly missed out on the Team GB Paris 2024 Olympics team in his main event, 100m breaststroke, finishing third at Olympic Qualifiers. Despite this diagnosis, Archie’s determined to not let this get the better of him and still has his sights set on training and qualifying for Team GB in 2028 for the Los Angeles Olympics.
Inspired by Archies sheer determination and drive to beat this and complete a Masters in Chemical Engineering, I have signed up to partake in the Great Manchester Half Marathon this May and will raise money for his chosen charity, Astro Brain Cancer Fund. This is not only in Support of Archie but all others suffering from similar diagnosis.
Brain tumors are indiscriminate and kill more people under the age of 40 than any other cancer. With more than 130 different types researching a cure is extremely complicated. Astro Brain Cancer Fund looks at the sub class of low-grade gliomas. A slow growing yet deadly group of tumours that cannot currently be cured by modern methods. Research into these tumours is limited but promising, with help from generous donations it is genuinely believed that breakthroughs in treatment can be achieved.
Any donations would be extremely appreciated to raise funding and awareness for Astro brain tumor fund and will allow them to continue their great work.
