Story
The Rotary Club of Redditch is raising funds for a Mobile Eye Unit, to provide vital services to people in rural Eastern India.
The Mobile Eye Unit will be able to reach those who are unable to travel, most often children and the elderly, the often significant distances needed. The specialists travelling with the Mobile Eye Unit will be able to help identify and treat conditions that would result in blindness without treatment, including diabetes induced blindness and other retinal diseases such as Eales disease.
Each van, fitted with the the relevant Ophthalmic equipment, will cost around £55,000. The long term aim is to fund three vans, but the current campaign is to raise funds for the first van.
Funds raised by The Rotary Club of Redditch, up to our target of £8,000, will be matched by a Rotary Foundation Grant, with further funds coming from Rotary Clubs in Eastern India, who will also handle the roll out programme.
