Story
I’m running the Hackney half for Bail For Immigration Detainees, a charity that campaigns against immigration detention and deportation in the UK. BID do the lord’s work providing legal advice, information and representation to people held up in the cruel immigration system. They also do important research, campaigning and litigation to help challenge the Hostile Environment.
It’s never been a more important time to support BID, as this nasty cruel government steps up immigration raids and deportations. Just last week, the government announced a nationwide operation to hold asylum seekers behind bars in detention in readiness for flights to Rwanda, which - by the governments own timetable - won’t even take off before July. Thousands of the most vulnerable people are going to be deprived of their liberty, while being used as pawns in the far right culture wars. Over the coming months BID will play an essential part in making sure that these people’s rights are protected, that they are released from detention, and that the flights to Rwanda don’t take off.
I know money is tight for a lot of people right now, but I'd be really grateful if you can give whatever you can to help BID.
As for the half marathon, I'll try my best and try to do it in 2 hours. Famous last words…
