Story
Maggie's is a tremendous charity that provides all kinds of support and services for those dealing with cancer; all for free. With centres across the entire UK, patients have access to support services that can help at any part of their journey. From professional therapy, to financial guidance, to online support information, Maggie's will help anyone battling cancer.
On the 10th of May, I will be participating in a charity relay race, running the length of the UK, specifically, Manchester to London, in 24 hours. Each participant will run at least a half marathon. The fun part part, it's a race! The race kicks off a weekend of friendly competation between Team North vs Team South, with the relay race, a football match, and a darts tournement. I'll be represeting Team South!
I'm joining the group who have been leading this event for several years now. Below is their story:
In 2021 our close mate Andy McAslan was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma which is an incurable blood cancer. Thankfully the chemotherapy treatment was successful and Andy was cancer free. However as the cancer is incurable it is possible the cancer will return at any point. The weight of this hanging over Andy made living a normal life without anxiety and worry very difficult. This is where Maggie's came in - a charity focused on providing support and therapy to those with cancer and their loved ones. Maggie's have been amazing to Andy and that's why we wanted to give something back.
Our annual event this year will see North and South compete 3 times across 2 days. We start in Manchester with a relay race of 2 teams running through the day and night aiming to reach London first. Each participant running at least a half marathon, the teams running 750km in total! Once this is complete we will head to the football game for the 5th meet up between the North and South teams. It is currently tied 2-2. The day will finish with a darts night at Bar Kick in Shoreditch with darts, entertainment and prizes on offer! Please do get involved, donate to such a great cause and let us know which team you're supporting!
